Once you get past the pretentious snob factor, The Thing would definitely make an impressive gift for someone who's not easily impressed. As stated on the site, "THE THING Quarterly is a periodical in the form of an object. It's like a magazine, except that each issue is conceived of by a different contributor and then published on a useful object." Sometimes it has pages. Most often, it does not.
