2023 Donation Report: We did this!

One of the nice pluses of being an unintentional entrepreneur is how I get to decide my own why for running a business. Increasing profit margin doesn’t have to be the prime directive, so it isn’t.

Awhile back, we made a pledge to donation a portion of our sales to nonprofit organizations that do the hard work of helping to improve human lives. The plan was to donate $1 from every unit sold through or web store + 10% of our wholesale sales. It warms my heart to share that we were able to donate $1500 for 2023. The funds were divided amongst the following organizations:

Miry’s List

Everyone deserves a chance to feel safe and welcomed in a new environment. Miry's List plays a crucial role in providing essential support and resources to refugees, helping them navigate the complexities of resettlement and fostering a sense of community and belonging. This is our second year giving a $1000 donation to Miry’s List

RIP Medical Debt

I learned about this organization through NPR. The founders identify as reformed debt collectors who now use their knowledge in collections to buy debt and zero out bills. It’s a simple, but life-changing strategy. that I think is just brilliant. On average, it takes only $1 to retire $100 in debt. This means that $300 donation will go toward cancelling $30,000 of medical debt. Woohoo!

Alameda Food Bank

Having had the privilege to travel outside of the Bay Area on occasion, I am always shocked by the difference in food cost wherever I go. Living in the Bay Area is extremely expensive, and not all salaries are capable of covering all basic needs. Our $100 donation will go to help bridge the gap.

YR Media

YR Media is committed to the empowerment of young voices, harnessing the power of journalism, artistic expression, and mentorship to create a lasting, positive influence in the world. Their reporting always feels raw and insightful. Our $100 supports this avenue for underrepresented voices to speak their truth.

We will continue the pledge in 2024. Let me know if you have a suggestion for a worthy donation recipient. Thanks!
