It started with a Facebook comment.

It’s one thing to have an idea. It’s another having to figure out how to make it happen.

Having followed Design Mom for years, I’ve always been interested in Alt Summit, the annual conference that she hosts each year for creative entrepreneurs and influencers.

One of the nice pluses of being an unintentional entrepreneur is how I get to decide my own why for running a business. Increasing profit margin doesn’t have to be the prime directive, so it isn’t.

When I made the pledge to donate $1 from every unit sold for our website (and 10% of wholesale orders) through the end of the year, I honestly thought that it would simply be a matter of doing the count by hand. Boy was I wrong.

As much as I enjoy a beautiful unboxing experience, we all know that most of the material used ends up as landfill waste.

If you're planning to ship holiday gifts for Hanukkah (Dec. 18–Dec. 26), Christmas (Dec. 25), Kwanzaa (Dec. 26–Jan. 1), or other holiday traditions, shipping deadlines are coming up.

So…instead of blasting everyone about yet another Memorial Day sale, I propose this:

As an avid online shopper myself, I am often tripped up by prospect of having to pay for shipping.

Taking the first step to learn how to do something new is always a bit scary, but I did it!
